This course is suitable for cyclists who would like to improve their confidence and skills in mountain bike terrain. You will need to be reasonably confident on your bike and able to ride up to about 10/15 km at a reasonable pace. Typical rides will be around 15 km but this is very flexible and may change according to weather conditions and the aspirations of the group.
Typical course contents
- Bike set up and diagnostic safety check
- Riding positions (climbing and descending)
- Braking
- Cornering
- Tackling small obstacles
- Trailside repairs
- Basic navigation
Riding skills will be developed throughout the weekend and will be applied during the rides.

Friday evening (7 pm)
- Bike check
- Kit and clothing requirements
Saturday
- Meet at 9 am and ride until 4 pm.
Sunday
- Meet at 9 am and ride until 3 pm.
Timings can easily be adjusted to suit your needs and may vary slightly at some venues.
Information and Cost
- Cost: £170 per person including bunkhouse self-catering accommodation
- Group size: 8 maximum and 4 minimum per course
- The pace will be relaxed and the terrain will present challenges but will not be overly hazardous or technical and is definitely suitable for beginners!
- Using a mix of bridleways, quiet lanes, byways and local trail centres.
- Bikes can be hired at £15 per day (including helmet and gloves)

- 29-31 July: Nidderdale.
- 3-5 September: Nidderdale. Nidderdale accommodation is at the Scar House Bunk Barn.
- 8-10 October: North York Moors (near Dalby), with accommodation at Stape.
